On Thursday night we had Mikayla's open house at her school. We drove up to Sedrow Wooley to Central Elementary and toured her classroom, met her principal and her teacher (Mrs. Lickfold, yes really, isn't that a bummer of a name!) signed her up for basketball and brownies and went to the book fair they were having in the library.
We had an EXCELLENT discussion with her teacher. I'm beyond impressed. This was such a huge answer to prayer for me as we were a little nervous after last year. Last year wasn't bad but she raced through the curriculum they had for her in the first 6 months and the last 3 months were just extra and review so we had been praying that someone would challenge our smarty pants. Mrs. Lickfold said she is an advanced reader and she will be tested this week to be placed into the AR portion of the class where they will work more on comprehension (on the computer) while the other kids are still in earlier parts of the learning process. It sounds like there's a small handful of smarty pants in that classroom that are going to keep their teacher on her toes so PRAY FOR MRS. LICKFOLD! I'm sure going to be! Mrs. Lickfold is super organized and runs a tight ship from what we saw, all three of us parental figures left with big wide smiles on our faces hopeful that Mikayla will have a fantastic year of learning some new things! Her school is just the cutest. It's a 100 year old building, beautifully kept up with a nice size library, and lots of play area outside! Her classroom is fantastic and the school is right in the cute old downtown area of town. I just was smitten.
This is her cool principal and the gym.
I loved all of the signs that were up her classroom. I think this class creed is just perfect!
Those are some great rules! Can rule 1 be enforced at my house?
Here's Mikayla reading to the three of us. She read us three books and was VERY upset that we wanted to move on and see some other things (Including the book fair).
