Last night I had the pleasure of riding the bus from the school (where we have Awana) to the church (where the kids get picked up) now, this normally just scares me beyond all because 30 SCREAMING 3-5th graders is not my idea of a relaxing 5 minute ride back to the church.
A few weeks ago I resorted to bribing the little darlings and it worked. They were ALL dead silent the entire way back, you make it a game and you bribe them, it works. I have learned a thing or two about the elementary school aged set.
Last night was our last night of club, a DEAR child brought each leader a bag of hershey kisses. I'll call her the little boy that brought the loaves and fishes. Thank GOD for the little bag of hershey kisses.
So, last night on the bus I sized things up, the boys had a bbq so they were all hopped up on soda and chips and the girls had just had their auction so they were excited about all the neat things they were taking home with them.
It looked like it was going to be a wild ride.
But just then I remembered that I had a little bag of hershey kisses! OH PLEASE LORD LET THERE BE ENOUGH!
I took a moment and pleaded with the Lord, PLEASE LORD LET THERE BE ENOUGH!
and then I took a step of faith and bribed them. Oh did I bribe them.
They were silent, the entire way, at one point I looked at that little bag and did a guess count and knew I'd be pretty close.
We got to the church and I got off the bus first and I started handing them out, with hugs for most of them, and I kid you not. The Lord provides and takes delight in even the smallest joys!
I had EXACTLY enough.
None left. no child crying. Boy I'm glad I didn't eat any more during the auction!
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gifts.
