I know I'm supposed to be packing my lunches to save money but JEEZ! I work in Pioneer Square home to my favorite place of all times. I've been good but today, I broke down and walked 2 blocks (CRAZY that we're this close, I used to come all the way from the market!) to the line for Salumi.
For those of you that haven't heard of Salumi or have been living under some sort of rock or something, Salumi is an artisanal salami shop. The family cures their own meats and makes fresh cheeses, pastas, etc. The line is always out the door and the samples, they are plentiful and they are the parents of Mario Batalli of Food Network fame. But they'd be famous without him. In fact I think Mario is famous because he came from AMAZING people.
So today I waited in line for just shy of an hour, talking to folks in line (for once it isn't weird to do that!) and when you get up to the counter they let you try all kinds of stuff. Amazing wonderful meats that I'll be having dreams about tonight. I ate something that I can't remember the name of that had more fat than meat but the fat melted in your mouth like butter. It was evil, I also tried the Lamb prociutto, to die for!
I ordered the special after trying it, it was wonderful. it was Mole Salami, pork flavored with chocolate, cinnamon, ancho chiles, and some other chile, not spicy at all just wonderful warmth.
They serve it on a big round bread with fresh mozerella (they pull daily) grilled onions, garlic oil spread. I officially reek but it's wonderful!
I was so giddy when I got back that two other guys ran over there, it must have sounded good!
If you ever come down here remember that you should get in line around 11 and be prepared for a wait but OH is it worth it!
