The grocery game

On my eternal quest to get our family finances up and on track and a budget in place I remembered that someone had told me about the grocery game.

If you've never heard of it you go to www.grocerygame.com and you get these lists. Lists in our area for Safeway, Albertsons, Riteaid and Walgreens. On these lists they tell you what sales are great and you should stock up on those items and also free items available to you.

There's a 1$ trial so I thought, what the heck, let's give it a try.

I've turned into a coupon clipping, bargain basement checking crazy shopoholic.

After one week...

So I saved my safeway and albertsons fliers from last tuesday, grabbed the info I needed out of the Sunday paper and hit the internet to get my list.

It allows you to pick only the items your household needs (let's say I don't need the good deal on pampers and I don't need stetson cologne either even if it is a good buy!) and then filter that list into a list you can take to the store.

I started at Safeway and had a great time shopping, every single solitary thing that I purchased was on sale. The checker didn't seem enthused. at all. especially when I asked for a rain check on the paper bags and tuna they were out of ;) Here's the bill, check it out for yourself!

Next was Albertsons, did you know that they will take their competitors coupons? So you get a coupon for Fred Meyer for buy one get one free 18 packs of eggs and you can use it at Albertsons! Here's my bill, the london broil that we got for $1.99 a pound was absolutely delicious last night!

All in all, I'm liking this method, the only problem I'm having is buying TOO much stuff. We have to eat some serious eggs and drink large amounts of milk in the next week to go through what I purchased (and grapes too!) but it was a good learning experience this week!

If you sign up please put in that I referred you! Have fun!

I've been doing the grocery game for a few years now. I love it! I always save about 50% on groceries. Don't worry about buying too much non-perishable items. There will be some months that might be slim on the savings. I swear by it, I'm glad you like it.
