Sadly, the picture does not do justice to how beautiful the votives are coming out! But here's your first look!
I purchased votives at IKEA (220 of the beauties!) and Keith and I brought them home. that in itself was a major undertaking. You should have seen us loading and unloading 55 four packs of votive holders out of ikea and into my 3rd floor condo. should be fun getting them to the church too! I am smart enough to think that through and keep the packaging for them!
I took 2 snowflake punches and punched out snowflakes out of avery labels (full sheet) and then cut each of those out (220 x 4 snowflakes per votive = 880 individual punches) to the point of blisters! I then through trial and error realized that the labels need to be affixed VERY solidly to the votives, I went as far as taking out the bone folder and making sure that the label was on the glass with no gaps.
I then took a q-tip and put the etching cream on over the labels, I found that I can manage a four pack at one time and not really any more. I had to make sure the cream was on thick but not too thick as it will run down the votive with gravity (I had to flip them a couple times during the process). You then wait about 4-5 minutes and then under running water you clean off the excess cream and peel off the label, then VIOLA! you have a very pretty snowflake etched votive!
I've only gotten about 20 of the 220 done at this point. I'm thinking I'll need some girl time to work on those!
This tuesday night I'm having a girl night at my condo for all who want to help me assemble the invitations, let me know if you want to come! I'd love the help!
