Mikayla had her first basketball game this Saturday. It was THE CUTEST THING EVER!!
first graders in their first games of their entire lives? oh shoot it was cute.
Saturday morning we got up and got out the door, Ros was visiting this weekend so both girls, basketball gear and stuffed animals made it to the jeep for our trip to Sedrow Woolley. Keith thought it would take a couple hours and it only took a little over ONE hour so we had some time to kill before the game started so we went to the grocery store and got our special waters to energize us for our playing! Those girls LOVE propel. I helped my day out with a red bull.
We arrived at the gym with two little girls that had to go. and had to go BAD! but alas, we were locked out, those little girls were troopers and waited 5 minutes for the athletic coordinator to arrive and unlock the gym!
We got Mikayla into her special gym shoes and off she went to practice/warm up with the other kids, it was again, so cute. My mom got there just after the game started and was so excited to play with her new shiney expensive camera (she got a rebel and I'm SO jealous!)
their game is played 3 on 3, each team member has a arm band on and you block and stay with the person on the other team with the same color arm band. That was the idea but I saw little implementation of that! they play for 5 minutes and then the other three get a turn to play. there's no stealing unless a shot is made and I heard "dribble the ball" about a hundred times as the kids think they should just grab the ball and RUN up the court, that dribbling stuff just gets in the way! Mikayla's coach seems really nice and had as much fun as the kids did (which is pretty cool if you ask me!) he was super about complementing them on good things!
Mikayla is getting there. she has a two handed dribble thing sometimes but here's what she has going for her.
1. she's fast. I mean FAST! by the time the other kids got to the other end of the court she was there filing her nails, not really but she did beat them by a mile.
2. she shares. At this age, that's amazing, she was good at remembering to pass and not hog the ball. unlike some of the other kids.
3. she was aggressive without getting mad. I don't model this well so it must be mom and dad modeling it alright ;)
It was a blast! They don't keep score so I have no idea who "won" it's not about that, these kids are learning learning learning!
My mom hasn't gotten me her pictures yet so these will have to do. I can't wait to see what she got!
Mikayla in practice driving down the lane, look at that form! ;)
I don't know if you can see it but if you look REAL close you can see Mikayla off the ground taking her shot! We're not totally sure but this may have gone in! She got TWO baskets during the game!
The pistons giving the other team a RA RA ROCKETS!
here's the tiny video I got of her during practice.

Oh she is so cute! I love the tongue thing LOL!
"oh shoot it was cute"- pun inteneded? :) She is a cutie, I have a niece named Mikayla, same spelling, this is the first time I've seen it spelt the same way somewhere else.
