I'm going to start sharing with you all my thoughts and opinions on the best show on tv on a weekly basis. well not really but one of my favorites... American Idol. I know all of you have extreme opinions on this show.
My opinions come from being a choir nerd all the way through high school and college. Yes ladies and gents, I was the Choir PRESIDENT my senior year of high school AND I actually lettered in Choir my sophomore-senior year. It was what I did.
And I can only imagine the dork I would have been then had this show been on. I know I would have been standing in line with the masses, sure that I would be the next American Idol...
All of this make me completely qualified to pass my judgement on these contestants, all of them who are better than I ever was...
Well, for me the fun part of the show is just beginning, the top 12, they've weeded out the idiots and we're left with the best of the best. Only this year there's 3-4 that I would toss immediately.
This week the theme was Lennon/McCartney songs. How do you mess up a classic?
You turn it country. Don't get me wrong, I'm a country girl but jeez. "8 days a week" is just not meant to TWANG like that. SO Kristy Lee Cook, you're fired.
My second pick for the chopping block?
David Hernandez. "I saw her standing there". Sounded like he was singing along with a Tiffany album from back in the day. Horrible.
Third out the door, the karaoke performance given by Ramiele Mulabay. she was ok, but that's not going to cut it. Her dress was way cute though.
Now for the shining stars!!! The cream of the crop!! The upper crust!!
My all time favorite Idol performance, which is saying alot (except for Chris Daughtry doing Bon Jovi, that's a hands down winner in my book) came from David Cook last night. He sang "Eleanor Rigby" and it was AMAZING! I'll never wrap my brains around the lyric about her keeping her face in a jar by the door but hey. it's a great song. I've had the "all the lonely people" riff running through my skull ALL DAY!
Second favorite of the night? my favorite performer thus far because anyone that can sound that close to Luther Vandross is my guy... Chikezie. That kid was outstanding last night. if you missed it, you missed the turn from him being a nervous guy to a guy that OWNED that stage last night. he sang "She's a woman" and started it with this down home, banjo pluking
Well the wrap up from last night? Turns out I was right, so goodbye Mr. Hernandez. you're good but just not good enough!
That's all for this week, tune in next week for more Idol FUN!
