OK people, I have a delima a super cool design delima. I'm experimenting and I need to bounce this off people I trust. and that's you.
1. I have a small kitchen
2. it's long and narrow
3. the far wall of the kitchen is boring and you see it alot when you're in the kitchen.
4. I bought red paint (and primer) this weekend
5. I want to paint the wall red. not just red, RED. the kind of red that would take much work to cover if we don't love it.
6. my kitchen stuff is all red and a light torquoise. I love the contrast of colors and really LOVE red.
7. I have fallen smitten for vinyl lettering and found a gal on etsy that will make me a 3-4 foot tall black whisk with white words that say TASTY. I heart this idea. much.
8. I also want to hang a shelf with a bar across it (also red) to hold my torquoise flour/sugar/baking flour/brown sugar canisters that I equally heart. Especially since counter space in said small kitchen is seriously lacking.
9. I think I might be crazy and that wall may end up being too busy.
HELP!

Mabye just the black whisk on the red? I think your fears about it being too busy would be well founded. I love the idea, but the added color of the white lettering might look pretty busy. Just my opinion though- go with what you love- it's your kitchen! :)
I like it. The louder the better. -=)
Sounds like might be a fun kitchen to hang out in.
I absolutley LOVE the idea. I think you should decide between the whisk & the shelf. Or do a smaller whisk? I love to paint so call if you need help!
I think you should go for it! you can always change it back, but you will never know unless you try right?;)
What about not the whole wall, but a LARGE square of the red painted on the wall? Then the wisk and the "tasty". I think the shelf and canisters will be too busy, but you could eyeball it after the painting and lettering and see if you like it?
When I was a kid, and that was many years ago since I am older than your mom, our kitchen was turquoise with red accents. Nice that those colors are returning since the kitchen in my childhood home was a great place to be. I think your ideas are super. Have some fun and if you don't like it - paint away!!! What the heck.
What about painting a large rectangle on which you place the shelf and cannisters? That would really set off the shelf and the turquoise cannisters, without being so overwhelming as the whole wall.
Would the wisk be enough on its own, without any lettering?
I'm not opposed to painting the whole wall--there really isn't that much. However--what about the colored wall in the dining room? Have you given up that idea?
